Signs and the Pandemic

In early 2020 the Town of Mammoth Lakes relaxed sign code enforcement, encouraging business owners to get creative in finding ways to bring in business and notify the public they are open. Now that business operations have picked back up, the Town of Mammoth Lakes code compliance department is going to be out in the community reminding businesses of the sign requirements and enforcing the sign codes more actively. The Town of Mammoth Lakes code enforcement department will be sending courtesy notices out to businesses with unpermitted signs starting February 2022.

This means banners, signs within the right-of-way and flutter flags will need to be removed. Also, any new businesses should apply for a sign permit to ensure that their sign complies with the Town’s sign standards and master sign plans.

If your business opened its doors in 2020 or 2021, you are required to apply for a sign permit by contacting the planning department at: planning@townofmammothlakes.ca.gov or (760) 965-3630 ext. 3
