Parks & Facilities
The Mammoth Lakes Parks and Recreation Department manages and maintains the Mammoth Ice Rink, Whitmore Track & Sports Field, Community Center Tennis Courts, Mammoth Creek Park, Shady Rest Park, the Volcom Brothers Skate Park and the Whitmore Recreation Area, including the Whitmore Pool. Town Administration oversees the Council Chambers / Suite Z, located in the Minaret Village Shopping Center.
Many of the facilities are available for short-term rental. Please contact the office for additional information or submit an online reservation request today!
Please note: Facility reservation fees will be refunded if the reservation is canceled within 7-days prior to the use date, subject to a non-refundable administrative fee of 10 percent.
Mammoth Ice Rink
The Mammoth Ice Rink is a professionally maintained and refrigerated outdoor facility located adjacent to the MammothLakes Library. The facility offers public skating sessions, skate improvement programs, expanded adult and youth hockey programs, Friday Night 1st TimerSkate Assist, and new this year, curling! The ice rink is typically open from late November to early March weather permitting. Amenities include skate sharpening, skate rentals and snack and beverage services. The Mammoth Ice Rink is a drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free facility. The facility is open seven days a week, typically from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Days and hours of operation are updated and published daily on the website. We look forward to welcoming you to the Mammoth Ice Rink this winter!
Whitmore Track & Sports Field
The Whitmore Track and Sports Field is located 6 minutes (6 miles) south of Mammoth Lakes, just off US HWY 395 on the Benton Crossing Road, and adjacent to the Whitmore Pool. The facility typically operates from April 1 – November 1 each year (weather permitting) between sunrise and sunset. The Whitmore Track and Sports Field is an all-weather, 9-lane polyurethane running track, with a full-size synthetic turf infield striped for soccer or football, and includes terrace seating, restrooms and ample parking.
Any organized, structured athletic activity requires the completion, submittal and approval of a Facility Use Application Form that includes approved liability insurance, and payment of all applicable fees. Shady Rest Park
Shady Rest Park is located at the end of Sawmill Cutoff Road, approximately ½ mile from Main Street and is open until November 1 (weather permitting). The park offers playground equipment, a sheltered picnic area, restrooms, picnic tables, sand volleyball courts, softball fields, soccer fields, a concession stand, a parking area and a small “street scene” skate-park designed for all ability levels. Picnic facilities may be reserved by calling the office.
Winter Grooming Program
The Shady Rest Winter Grooming program is well underway thanks to the great snow this year. The groomed winter trails in Shady Rest are located right at the entrance to Town and are accessed from the Welcome Center and Ranger Station. This looped experience is shared with a variety of users, including snowshoers and dog walkers, so please be mindful of others and share the trails. Mammoth Creek Park
Mammoth Creek Park is located on Old Mammoth Road, and is open (weather permitting) from spring through fall. The park offers a play area designed for toddlers and school-age children, restrooms, parking, picnic tables, and access to Mammoth Creek.
Trails End Park - Volcom Brothers Skate Park
Trails End Park is located on Meridian Boulevard approximately ¼ mile south of Main Street and is open until November 1 (weather permitting). The 40,000 square-foot Volcom Brothers Skateboard Park is open sunrise to sunset, offers ample parking and seasonal restrooms. Please respect park closures and rules.
The Town requires all users to wear helmets and pads and no person shall use the skating surface other than for proper use of a skateboard or in-line skates. Use of a bicycle on the skating surface is strictly prohibited.
Whitmore Ball Fields
The Whitmore Recreation Area is located 10 miles south of Mammoth, just off US Hwy 395 on the Benton Crossing Road. Facilities include a regulation baseball diamond, two softball fields (one lighted), and restrooms. Whitmore is open until November 1 (weather permitting).
The Whitmore Pool is located opposite the ball fields on Benton Crossing Road. This outdoor aquatic facility has stunning views of the “Eastside,” including the Glass, the White, and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges.

The facility includes a six-lane 25-meter pool, children's wading pool, restrooms, hot showers, lawn area, shade structure and vending machines. The pool is open from approximately mid-May through early September and the facilities are available for private use by reservation. Red Cross-certified personnel staff the pool. Community Center and Park
Open in summer and fall, the Community Center includes a park, six tennis courts, play and picnic areas, and an inside meeting room, including kitchen, tables, chairs and restrooms. The Community Center is located at the corner of Forest Trail and Minaret Road. The facility is available for year-round rental - rental rates available at the Recreation Office.
Community Center Tennis Courts
The Parks and Recreation Department maintains six tennis Community Tennis Courts at the Park. Courts are open from mid-May thru November 1 (weather permitting), for dawn to dusk drop-in play. Please call the Parks and Recreation office at (760) 965-3690 to reserve the courts for groups or tournaments. The Mammoth Lakes Tennis Club (MLTC) offers social tennis activities for locals and visitors at the site, including the annual Summer Solstice Doubles tournament in June and the Labor Day Doubles tournament in September.
